I joined this Health Tech startup, Now Technologies, as a Product Consultant, UX Lead, and sole UX researcher in 2017, where I worked together with the Chief Product Officer and the Product team. The company was already close to releasing the first version of the head drive solution for quadriplegic users, the Glory. I immediately jumped into reactive user research as the startup already had a few beta users. After the user interview and observation sessions, I managed to identify the 4 main user issues. Unfortunately, it was too late to fix them, and the product eventually failed on the market, but when the market reinforced the same findings, the team was able to start working on the new version confidently, which is now considered a business success. The startup has since became part of the Sunrise group.
While working on the new solution, I also worked out the company's target personas, based data, further user interviews and test sessions, and research that was already available publicly. We have created the general experience map of quadriplegic users and a template for each persona's customer journeys to apply for any future products for this target audience.
As part of the new GyroSet product team, I wrote epic-level user stories and constraints based on user feedback and stakeholder input (from technical constraints to FDA and EU medical regulations). I put my Agile experience into practice by mentoring the team to use the Scrum methodology before the arrival of our first Srcum Master and introducing and administering Jira.
The GyroSet system consists of 4 different hardware parts and 3 software applications. Besides participating in the hardware design by providing usability inputs and improving the user experience of the 2 existing applications, I've been responsible end-to-end for the product design of the application that manages the networks of all the hardware devices and their firmware updates. After defining the user stories, I documented the user flows in the context of the ideal user experience vs. technical and legal limitations. I created the wireframes, communicated and managed the contractor designer, and overviewed the design during the development.
I was also responsible for introducing and overviewing a design library and style guide, of which the next step is to set up a living style guide as a foundation for consistent branding and usability across the company's all applications.
